South Eastern Regional Vocational Technical
Shirley Ezerins
Originally in college, I pursued a career in Art Therapy. After graduation, I worked in Human Services for several years as Psychiatric Intern gathering data, and developing and implementing services for a State Mental Health Program. I sequentially worked with Autistic Children in a Vocational Training Program, Occupational Rehabilitation on a Psychiatric Ward, then lastly worked with Mentally Ill Adults in an integrated community home. Whenever possible I integrated art into my program offerings. I then took a hiatus to raise my children.
During this time, I was actively involved in my community and with children’s programs.
After much searching and reflection, I decided to go back to school to further my art training and pursue a career in the graphic art field. I worked at a few small studios and did freelance work. In 2005, I worked as a Teacher Assistant while doing freelance work as a way to stabilize my income. The following year, I began my teaching career.
I have been teaching for 11 years now. I am a Vocational Shop Instructor in the Design and Visual Communications Shop. My areas of focus are Design Elements and Principles, Illustration and Painting, Digital Illustration, Photography and Photo-editing. I also teach layout, typography, Adobe Design Software and portfolio development. I now have my Vocational Supervisory License.
