Global Learning Charter
Charlene Elias
I am now completing my 10th year of teaching at Global Learning Charter Public School. I am currently a team leader for the 6th grade team as well as the Social Studies teacher. I have taught Humanities (ELA/Social Studies) for most of my time but began my career at “Global” as a 5th grade Science/Math teacher. I have been officially mentoring teachers for four years.
My previous nine years were spent in Pawtucket, Rhode Island teaching grade 4. I thought that was my dream job (after lifeguarding!) but was lured to the public-school sector and never looked back.
Prior to my experience teaching in the classroom, I worked as a librarian in the local middle school and at Capron Park Zoo in the Education Department. Yes, I love to hold snakes and hissing cockroaches!
I received my master’s degree at the University of Phoenix in Elementary Education and my bachelor’s degree at Northeastern University as a Physical Education major/ Sports Medicine minor.
While my years lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons were the most fun, working on the Tobacco Farms in Connecticut is one of my proudest character building accomplishments.
