I am currently the Co- Mentor Leader for the High School, sharing that position with a colleague who is also taking 20/20 Vision. In this role we support teachers who are new to the district and organize monthly meetings for novice teachers and their mentors.
This is my 15th year teaching at the high school level. I teach World History, United States History, Sociology and Advanced Placement Psychology. Although I’m a history teacher by training I love teaching Sociology and Psychology because students are learning about topics they’ve never previously studied.
During my first mentoring experience I took the course- Mentoring in Action: Becoming a Qualified Mentor and Leader and enjoyed the reflection and vision the course offered. In addition to mentoring new teachers to our school I’ve also hosted two student teachers in my classroom from a local university. I enjoy witnessing student-teacher growth, helping them plan and organize the delivery of content and troubleshooting the challenges they face along the way.
At the high school I’ve been involved as a Class Advisor, contributed to a school-wide advisory curriculum and coordinate our Virtual High School program. In addition to Mentoring in Action and 20/20 Vision, my greatest professional development has come from the Advanced Placement Psychology Summer Institute and Adolescent Literacy courses offered from our district Literacy Coach.
