Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School
Kathy Regan
Kathy Regan began her career working as a staff nurse in a local hospital, providing patient care and education. She decided to take her love of education into the classroom. After being a school nurse for a short time, she began teaching at Assabet Valley in Marlborough MA as a Career and Technical Instructor. In her role as Lead Teacher, she works with a variety of students from ninth to twelfth grade in the Health Technology program, preparing students for a career in healthcare. Kathy took advantage of leadership opportunities such as curriculum committees, vocational framework revision team, Certificate of Proficiency steering committee, Technical Teacher Testing facilitator, and various school improvement committees.
Her interest in mentoring inspired her to take a Mentoring in Action course that not only supported her ability in mentoring new teachers, but helped her district develop a more comprehensive mentoring program. She currently serves as a Assabet’s New Teacher Induction program liaison that assures novice teachers have access to the accumulated knowledge and expertise of their colleagues that contribute to student achievement.
Kathy is enrolled in the 20/20 Vision – Mentoring in Action Leadership Academy to collaborate with other mentors and receive valuable advice and support from mentors and coaches from across the country. In this course she is also supporting her mentors in using mindfulness practices to enhance their leadership capacity so they can purposefully mentor their novice teachers. She remains passionate about this work and is very interested in helping her district and other districts in enhancing their mentoring programs so all novice teachers can be successful.
